INNOVATING ON
RESEARCH METHODS FOR FAMILY WELLBEING

Advancing arts based and mixed methods research to amplify family and youth lived experiences in neurodiversity, chronic illness, and mental health

AMPLIFY Framework

Our approach to family-centred, arts based, mixed methods research is grounded in lived experience and designed for real-world implementation.

A — Arts

Creative knowledge translation and storytelling that invites connection, reflection, and shared meaning.

M — Mixed Methods

Integrating numbers, narratives, and context to understand what works, for whom, and why.

P — Prioritizing

Equity-centred, family-led research design that centres what matters most to communities.

L — Lived experiences

Experiences of families and youth are essential evidence to informing questions, methods, and interpretation.

I — Implementation

Co-designing practical, scalable solutions that move evidence into care, policy, and community action.

F/Y — Families & Youth

Partners, not participants—collaborating across the full research lifecycle from idea to impact.

Research Focus

Our current research focuses on innovations in patient-oriented research using arts based, mixed methods and knowledge translation science.

Our work integrates technology and co-design to understand experiences of health, illness, and health service delivery specific to childhood chronic disease, and use these data to inform knowledge translation approaches across various health-illness and social contexts to improve outcomes for often marginalized and put-at-risk groups.
